Before the Year Ran Out

I came back to Memphis for the holidays, and seeing Aries was at the top of my list. The weather kept us indoors, so a hotel room became our studio, and the camera came out on two different visits over those last days of the year.

There were no murals or skylines this time, just Aries and plenty of personality. He was far more at ease in front of the camera than the first time I photographed him, cracking jokes, striking poses, and taking the occasional phone call mid shoot. In between, we managed a few photos of the two of us together, which I treasure more than anything else from that trip.

Distance changes how you measure time with someone. These photos were not about the setting. They were about making the most of the days I had with him before the year ran out.
