Dallas, the Second Time
My second trip to Dallas came by way of a friend who had business in town. While he worked, I had the city to myself, and this time I made sure to see more of downtown than my first visit allowed.
I started in the Arts District, where sculptures stand on nearly every corner and a winged horse keeps watch outside Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. From there I wandered through downtown’s towers and past the old red courthouse, then made my way back to Deep Ellum, where the murals had multiplied since I last saw them. Somewhere in between, Tony Tasset’s giant Eye stared me down from its lawn on Main Street, which is not something you forget.
The first visit gave me a taste of Dallas. The second gave me a chance to see how much more there was.
