Memphis Botanical Gardens - Memphis, Tennessee (June 2018)
Two Cameras, No Hurry
After the Missouri Botanical Garden opened my eyes to flowers, I wanted to see what my own city’s garden had to offer. So I headed to the Memphis Botanic Garden with my friend Kel, a fellow photographer, which meant two cameras and no one in a hurry.
The garden turned out to have more personality than I expected. A red bridge arches over the Japanese garden pond, where the koi crowded the surface the moment anyone leaned over the water. Magnolias and daylilies filled in the quieter corners, and sculptures turned up where you least expected them, all the way down to an old pair of boots someone had turned into a planter.
There is something about shooting alongside another photographer. You notice what they stop for, they notice what you stop for, and somehow you both come home seeing a little more.
