Pittsburgh in Snow

Business brought me back to Pittsburgh, and this time I left downtown behind. A fresh layer of snow had settled over the city, and I headed toward Oakland and the places I still had not seen.

Schenley Park was hushed and white, with its stone bridges and wooded trails looking like a scene straight out of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. From there I made my way to the University of Pittsburgh, where the Cathedral of Learning rises over campus. At Heinz Memorial Chapel, a generous tour guide let me into areas most visitors never see. That meant the organ console with its rows of stops, the stained glass up close, and the vaulted ceiling from angles I could never have reached on my own. I finished on Mount Washington, looking down on the rivers and the Point dusted in white.

The first trip, I saw Pittsburgh through a book. This time, someone opened a door, and the city let me in a little further.
