Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (February 2022)
Through Older Eyes
My dad brought us to Gettysburg when we were kids, and the place stayed with me. I came back as an adult to see it with fresh eyes and to photograph the history I only half understood back then.
The town itself is full of character, with brick storefronts, colorful row homes and a statue of Lincoln on the corner, caught in conversation with a modern visitor. Out on the battlefield, cannons still face across open fields, split rail fences trace the old lines, and the Pennsylvania Memorial rises above it all. Monuments stand on nearly every hill, each one marking a story.
Standing on that ground as an adult hit differently. I understood a little more of why Dad wanted us to see it.
