Reno, Nevada (February 2020)
Now a Local
After settling into my new home, I finally took my camera out for my first real tour of the city proper. This time I wasn’t a visitor, I was a local.
I walked the Truckee River through downtown, crossing footbridges as the water rushed over the rocks, then wandered into Midtown, where nearly every wall seemed to be covered in murals. Bold faces, bright flowers and playful words turned whole blocks into an open air gallery. The Space Whale glowed against the evening sky, old motel signs still stood along the streets, and one sculpture made it look as if a city bus had driven straight into the ground.
Seeing Reno through a resident’s eyes changed everything. The city I had joked about moving to was now mine to explore, one colorful block at a time.
