The Miss Gay NC USofA pageant brought me to Raleigh for the first time, to Club CC on a night when the crowd felt like a Greensboro reunion in a new zip code. The room was darker and more intimate than what I was used to, which gave the whole evening a different kind of energy.
Gabrielle Berlyn had invited me to document her first major pageant, and she delivered a full cheerleading routine that was impossible to look away from. She competed alongside Monique Chanel, Scarlet Dailey, Breyannah Allure, and Gobriel Tinaj, with performances from Arabia Knight-Addams, Tajma Hall, Taylor Knight-Addams, Jazmine Brooks, Eden Parque-Divine, and Paisley Parque rounding out the night.
Scarlett Dailey took the crown with a Lucille Ball impression that stopped the room cold.
