Downtown, Looking Again

After so many trips away, it was time to point the camera at home. I spent the day downtown, seeing Memphis the way I would see any new city.

Downtown was covered in murals, from faces painted on old warehouse walls to entire buildings turned into canvases. Theater marquees and old storefronts filled in between them. Down by the river, the bluff opened up to wide sky and water, with the skyline and the Pyramid in the distance. That day, a pair of replica tall ships happened to be docked along the riverfront, which felt like the city showing off a little.

It is easy to stop seeing a place once you live there. Walking downtown with the eyes of a visitor reminded me how much Memphis still had to show me.
