Atlanta, Georgia (August 2019)
Slow Down, Midtown
Back home in Atlanta, I headed out again to explore more of my city along Peachtree Street.
The walk took me past landmarks old and new: Rhodes Hall rising like a stone castle, the red doors of The Temple, and the arched Fifth Street Bridge with the skyline behind it. Tall glass towers and classic skyscrapers rose above the tree canopy at every turn. Along the way, a tiger swallowtail butterfly kept me company in a bed of purple phlox, and I couldn’t stop photographing it.
The more I explored Atlanta, the more it felt like mine. Slowing down long enough to notice a butterfly in the middle of a busy city reminded me why I keep exploring.
