First Steps in Charm City
After the long drive east, I finally settled into my new home in Baltimore, and on my first outings I set out to get to know the city.
I started at the Inner Harbor, where the historic tall ship USS Constellation, the red Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse and the old Power Plant line the waterfront beneath modern towers. Mr. Trash Wheel was quietly doing his job in the harbor, an only in Baltimore sight that made me smile. From there I wandered through Mount Vernon, past the Washington Monument and grand brick buildings, then out into neighborhoods like Waverly, where rowhouses and bold murals celebrate the people who shaped the city.
Baltimore felt gritty, historic and full of character from the very start. After years of moving, it was exciting to begin learning the streets of a new place I could call home.
