Towson, Maryland (March 2021)
Just North of Home
Just north of my new home in Baltimore, I spent an afternoon exploring Towson, the seat of Baltimore County.
At the heart of town, the historic Baltimore County Courthouse stands among shaded lawns and pathways, its columns and white cupola giving the center a classic, stately feel. Around it, stone churches, colonial homes and Victorian houses line quiet streets, while newer high rises and shops show a town that keeps growing. I also passed Dulaney High School and the Church of the Immaculate Conception, and in one small garden, a cheerful group of garden gnomes kept watch beside a stone bench.
Towson felt friendly and grounded, a place where history and everyday life sit comfortably side by side. Exploring it helped me start to understand the wider community around my new city.
