Baltimore, Maryland (May 2021)

East Side Stories

I headed back out to keep exploring Baltimore, this time on the east side of the city, where grand history and everyday life sit side by side.

I found the towering American Brewery building with its ornate Victorian turrets, and Clifton Mansion overlooking the green lawns of Clifton Park. Nearby, an old stone ruin stood half reclaimed by vines and wildflowers. In a hilltop cemetery, monuments and stone gates framed a sweeping view of the downtown skyline. Rowhouses with striped awnings lined the streets, flowers bloomed along front steps, and on one sidewalk someone had written in chalk that the meek shall inherit the world.

Baltimore keeps showing me its many sides, from forgotten ruins to beautifully restored landmarks. Every walk reveals a little more of the city’s resilience and character.
