The Voyage Home
My second visit to San Francisco was a solo trip, and I gave it a mission. As a lifelong Star Trek fan, I set out to find as many places as I could from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, the film where the crew travels back in time to the city by the bay.
I wandered through North Beach and Chinatown, past the Transamerica Pyramid and the old towers of the Financial District, then down to the Embarcadero, where the Bay Bridge stretched out over the water. From Fisherman’s Wharf and the historic ships at Hyde Street Pier, I could see Alcatraz and the Golden Gate under a soft gray sky. A tie dyed Volkswagen bus parked on a hill felt like a nod to the film’s era.
Exploring alone, with a favorite movie as my guide, made the city feel like an adventure I had been waiting years to take.
