Boise, Idaho (September 2020)
There and Back Again
Living out west put places like Boise within reach, so I made the seven hour drive to Idaho’s capital and back in a single day. I was exhausted by the end, but it was worth every mile.
Downtown Boise mixed old and new with an easy, friendly charm. Historic brick buildings and turreted landmarks stood beside modern towers, and murals covered walls and alleys throughout the city center. Painted utility boxes added even more color, including one bearing Idaho’s motto, Esto Perpetua. In the neighborhoods nearby, grand Victorian homes and craftsman bungalows sat beneath mature trees, and the sandstone Idaho State Capitol rose above its gardens under a deep blue sky.
Boise felt welcoming from the moment I arrived. Some places are worth the long drive just to say you’ve seen them, and this was one of them.
