Frankfort, Kentucky (May 2025)

Small Capital, Big Impression

Frankfort is the kind of city that stops you in your tracks because you were not expecting it to feel the way it does. As the capital of Kentucky it carries real historical weight, but what struck me most was how small and unhurried it felt. Walking its streets, I kept thinking of Mayberry. The historic homes, the churches, the quiet tree lined blocks all had that quality of a place that time has been gentle with.

I went in knowing Frankfort was small and historic. I did not expect it to feel quite so much like stepping into something slower and simpler. So I leaned into that. I let the architecture speak, I let the streets breathe, and I tried to capture a city that seems entirely comfortable being exactly what it is.

This was the day before Louisville, the first stop on a drive that took me through as much of Kentucky as I could manage. Frankfort made a strong case for itself.
