Icyss' Graduation (June 2019)

The Youngest Walks

My youngest niece, Icyss, graduated from High Point Central, and being there to see it was the reason for the whole trip home. A year after her sister walked the same stage, it was her turn.

The ceremony filled the arena with family, friends and a sea of navy caps and gowns. A bagpiper led the graduates in, and the crowd cheered every name. Afterward, we gathered outside for photos with her mom, her sister, her grandparents and everyone else who had helped get her there, all of us smiling in the sunshine.

Watching the youngest one grow up and step out on her own is a different kind of pride. I drove the long way home to be there, and it was worth every mile.
