San Antonio, Texas (November 2019)
Worth the Wait
The next stop on my road west was San Antonio, and I was especially excited to finally see the Alamo.
Standing in front of the old mission, I was struck by how small and quiet it felt in the middle of the modern city, yet how much history it holds. From there I wandered down to the River Walk, where restaurants and footbridges line the water beneath cypress trees and tall historic buildings. Downtown, old storefronts and grand stone facades shared the streets with colorful signs, and in one plaza, giant painted skulls brought a burst of color to a gray, misty day.
San Antonio blends its past and present with real warmth. Seeing the Alamo in person was a moment I had waited a long time for, and it was worth every mile.
