Annapolis, Maryland (July 2021)
Capital on the Water
Living in Baltimore put so much of Maryland within easy reach, and Annapolis was high on my list. The state capital sits right on the water, just a short drive south.
Boats crowd the harbor at City Dock, and brick storefronts climb Main Street toward the dome of the State House. The quiet side streets are lined with colorful old homes and small gardens. Across town, the grounds of the Naval Academy are calm and green, and I caught a group of midshipmen marching in formation across the lawn.
Annapolis takes its history seriously without losing any of its charm. With sailboats gliding along the river, it was easy to linger and hard to head home.
